ok, so I spent a lot of time after I got the 3 images at the top to locate them where they looked best by changing 1% at a time each way until I got them where I wanted them. Then I realized, after spending all that time, if someone has their browser a different width, it moves the images as everything is set at percentages, my browser is never at full width so I positioned those images to look good there, then when I went to full width it moved the images far apart.
So, I changed the width from 80% to 1100px wide, this will keep the images from spreading far apart. The problem with this fixed width is that Google is not going to like it because it will not be mobile friendly. Problem number 2 is if someone uses a laptop with a screen narrower than 1100px it won't work well either.
So how wide is your screen and browser? I am trying to fiddle with the width to make it 80% with a max-width of 1100px but have not been successful with that code modification yet, but I'm not giving up. So at the time I sent this reply up the wrapper width is still set at 1100px. I will post a message when or if that changes.
Does it currently look ok to you at the width current width setting of 1100px?
I edited to add: I also changed the background image to a larger sized image I had to do a quote as this reply is going to move over to a new page and I wanted to make sure you didn't miss the message above
I have it now set at 80% wide with a max-width of 1000px, this will make Google happy, and this will keep the 3 images at the top from spreading way for away from each other too

I had read it, Richard. I was busy getting some screenshots for you so you could see what I see, one from my laptop and one from my desktop. Both were reduced in size to 70%. Hope these shots are helpful. This is laptop This is the desktop

The Screen Shots are very helpful. What did you mean by "Both were reduced in size to 70%" ?
On my laptop screen, with the browser in full width, looks exactly like your desktop image. Your laptop screen shot shows it quite a bit narrower to the point where created by displays HotRod Richard on 2 lines instead of on 1 line. So your laptop must have a narrower screen than 1100px?
So, let's try 90% wide and max-width 1100px for your laptop. I'll leave it that way until you let me know how that does.

I mean when I got my screenshot. I put it into my art program and cropped it. Then I reduced the images down to 70% of their original size. So when I look at your board, it is much larger than the screenshot shows.

oh, ok, so does that mean it's just as well set to 80% rather than 90%? I did not notice any change here when I went to 90%, which is what it is currently set at
Edited to add: I did not notice the difference with my browser wide, but I do see the narrower side margins when I narrow my browser

My laptop is considerably smaller than my desktop.

ok, so now that it's set at 90% wide, it does not help the view on your laptop? Meaning it might be fine to set it back to 80%?

I never set my browser at anything other than 100%. I got into trouble with that once when it was set less than a 100%. It took me and several people at support some time to find the root of the problem. I adjust the width of sidebars in the Theme, not the browser.

ok, but I'm not setting the width of the sidebars or the browser here. I'm setting the width of the theme wrapper, back and forth from 80% wide to 90% wide, and wanting to know which of those widths look best to you...
And a happy medium for everyone that might visit with desktop or laptops, and different browser widths

Don't know where you are now, but this is what happened when you changed settings after my first screenshots. Message area is wider and sidebars are more narrow. This is the laptop.

hmmm... I think the laptop looked better at 80%, what do you think?
ok, I just split the difference to 85%, which works best for you all around? 80%, 85%, or 90% ?

Yep!! I like sidebars wider than these are on the last screenshot.

ok, so 90% is definitely out, now it's still at 85% do you prefer that or the wider side bars at 80% ?
This thread is getting to be almost as good as an instant chat box, LoL ?
